UPTON, Mass. – It’s a weekend of opposites in Upton -- energetic high school sporting events balanced by soothing chamber music in the neighboring town of Northbridge or the musical talent of an Upton resident in Cambridge.

Friday, Jan. 18

Girls' varsity basketball
: 7 p.m. vs. Sutton at Nipmuc Regional High School, 90 Pleasant St., Upton.

Paul Surapine of the Claflin Hill Sympohony Orchestra: 7:30 p.m., Alternatives' Singh Theater, 50 Douglas Road, Whitinsville. Tickets are $19 and may be purchased at www.claflinhill.org.The concert is sponsored by Gaudette Insurance and ERA Key Realty.

Saturday, Jan. 19

Boys' varsity basketball (rescheduled from Dec. 14):
4:30 p.m. vs. West Boylston at Nipmuc Regional High School, 90 Pleasant St., Upton.

Upton singer/songwriter Dan Cloutier: 8 p.m.  Nameless Coffeehouse, 3 Church St., Harvard Square, Cambridge. $10 suggested donation.
